1. Prepare the crust a few hours ahead of time (or the night before if possible), it will need some time to chill in the fridge before using. 2. Cut 1 cup of very cold butter into small cubes. I usually keep the butter in the freezer for about 30 min before using. 3. Add the cubed butter to 2 1/2 cups of flour and 2 tbsp of sugar. Then use a fork to gently cut and press the butter into the flour until it is crumbly. It’s okay to have some clumps of unmixed butter at this point. 4. Then slowly add ice cold water 1-2 tbsp at a time and mix with a spatula. Add just enough water until there is no more dry flour. I usually add about 1/3 cup water total but it can depend a lot on your temperature and flour. 5. Transfer the pie dough to a floured work surface and use your hands to knead until the dough just comes together. If it’s too dry, add 1 tbsp of cold water at a time, Don’t overwork the dough! 6. Cut the dough in half, wrap it with plastic wrap, and keep it in the fridge for at least 1 hour but overnight if possible. 7. When you’re ready to make the pie, first prepare the apple filling by slicing 8 large apples. Feel free to add more or less apples depending on the size of your pie, but no need to change the amount of the other ingredients. 8. Add the sugar, flour, and cinnamon to the sliced apple and mix until the apple is well coated. 9. Flour your work surface, then roll out one of the pie crust dough halves to about a 12 in circle. Place this onto your pie dish and gently press the dough to fit the dish. 10. Pour the apple mixture directly into the pie dish onto the bottom crust. 11. Roll out the other half of the pie crust. If you would like a lattice design, cut 1-2 in strips of the dough. Then weave the pie crust onto the top of the cake (see my tik tok for a video tutorial), then crimple. If you would like a more simple design, place the crust over the top of the pie, trim off the extra border, and make 2-3 small slits in the center to let out steam. 12. Brush the top of the pie with a bit of egg wash (mix 1 tbsp of water/milk with one beaten egg). Bake at 375F for 45-60min. Let the pie cool before slicing and enjoying :~)View original recipe
